Where are you from and how long have you been in Boston?
I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, but have lived in the Boston area since 1989 and in Brookline since 2004!
What was your first yoga class like?
My first yoga class was at Healthworks, and I found it to be really strange, I didn't get why everyone was so into the poses. I remember really disliking navasana, boat pose.
What’s your favorite pose to teach?
My favorite pose to teach at the moment is a toss up between trikonasana, triangle, and ardha chandrasana, half-moon. The poses are so interesting with respect to the hips and the rotation of the thigh bones. When done properly both feel so lengthening in the side body and so powerful!
As a practitioner, what pose makes you cringe?
The pose urdhva dhanurasna, or wheel, really makes me cringe. It requires much opening of the front body and shoulders that many of us lack and something else has to compensate... It's a pose that will be a long work in progress for me.
Where can we find you when you’re off your mat?
Off the mat I am usually around Brookline and Boston. Taking kids to school or playing at the playground or working at a cafe. On the weekends we get outside as much as possible and in nature when time allows.
What’s your favorite or the most random song on your class playlist right now?
